For many readers, nothing compares to a physical book. The holiday season is fast approaching. Maybe you're the reader (you are here, after all!) and others want to know what to give you. You can just send them this post. I have loved all the items here! Or maybe, you have a reader in your life and you're not sure what to gift - what works and what doesn't. This is a handy list for readers who read paper books. Whether they collect them or get copies from the library, this is a helpful list.
Paperbacks and hardbacks carry a sense of nostalgia and permanence that digital screens can’t quite replicate. The feel of turning crisp pages, the weight of the book itself, and even the scent of paper all create a multi-sensory experience that deepens immersion in a story. Hardbacks often appeal for their durability and timelessness, while paperbacks are lightweight, portable, and budget-friendly—making both formats staples on a reader’s shelf and collectible trophies.
Reading physical books can also offer a welcome break from screens. Without notifications or blue light, paper copies encourage focus and relaxation, allowing readers to sink fully into a story. Still, physical reading comes with its own set of tools that can enhance comfort and accessibility. Bookmarks are essential for keeping your place, while book lights make evening reading possible without straining your eyes. For longer sessions, bookstands or lap desks can relieve the strain of holding a heavier hardback. Some readers also keep magnifiers or reading glasses handy for smaller print.
Choosing paper books means embracing both tradition and comfort, and the right accessories make the experience even more enjoyable. Here are my favorites!
The flat booklight page
This is one of my favorites. I have given a good handful as gifts and readers always love them. It's easy to use, lightweight, portable and ships with a protective coating to keep it from getting scratched. This book light adopts a new lighting structure design, which is a panel/ board/ plate, and its entire clear transparent panel will light up when turn it on, being able to provide clear and warm light in the reading position that it covers. And stray light doesn't escape to bother anyone else in the dark room.
The NuFlex battery powered booklight
This booklight is hands off! Clip it somewhere and angle it to where you want and forget about dealing with a light! This light lasts plenty long (up to 16 hours with 3 AAA batteries (included)). It can also be plugged in with any standard micro-USB cable. The silicone neck bends and holds position - yes I've used it and it stays! - for precision. The clip is wide and easy to use. I've clipped mine to my book or even to the bedframe. There are several options for brightness and it travels well. Mine has been to Alaska and Europe and I haven't had to replace it.
The book holder
The perfect tool for the reader who needs their hands free. This clear stand can hold your device or reading material in place while you are on your treadmill getting your steps in, or while you're doing chores. It's clear to allow you to see your equipment dashboard so you can still monitor your progress. It can hang if you want, so you can place it over a screen or even the back of a chair. However, it also stands on its own or can be propped against a wall. (I use a walking pad--so no screen.) Just prop this nearby. It shows a tablet e-reader in the image but the base is more than wide enough to hold a paperback! and the pages wont flip on you!
A page holder
This is a simple little page assist and it's personalized! It allows a reader to hold a book open with one hand leaving the other free for tea, coffee, snacks, you name it. These are very nice walnut yet still lightweight with a nice little thumbhole and there are several options. There's even a cat cut out and the order page has lots of images to inspire how you want it customized!

I found all the prices to be very reasonable and as a paper reader sometimes myself, the little things can go a long way.
