Contemporary Rom Com with Sci-fi Roots

The connection from epic sci-fi movies movies to rom coms is closer than you think.

Sometimes a relationship is so force full (I did that on purpose) it inspires others to create. Fan based art comes in many forms from cos-play to fanfic that takes the original characters and puts them in new situations, and sometimes that fanfic takes the feelings and actions of the original characters and settings and they run off creating all new characters, and all new situations.

The main protaganist and antagonist from the last of the main Star Wars trilogies sparked such interest.

The pairing of Kylo-Ren, played by Adam Driver, and Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, inspired many, from die-hard Star Wars fans to conflict resolution analysts, to authors who fell in love with their enemies-to-lovers chemistry.

Please don’t let the fact that the inspiration for these books was found in the onscreen relationship formed by Kylo-Ren and Rey get in your way of reading and enjoying them. They are highly enjoyable

Here are Three of many contemporary rom-coms inspired by the Kylo-Ren and Rey pairing:

  • The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
When a fake relationship between scientists meets the irresistible force of attraction, it throws one woman’s carefully calculated theories on love into chaos.
    women in STEM, fake dating
  • You Again by Kate Goldbeck
Can they stop hating each other long enough to fall in love?
enemies-to-friends-to-lovers with a When Harry Met Sally vibe, opposites attract
  • Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto
As they compose and play songs together, it’s clear that their powerful connection could make for a performance that will blow everyone’s minds.
orchestral musicians, work rivalry, forced proximity
